UT Dermatology’s Dr. Allison Jones Recognized Among The Memphis Business Journal’s 40 Under 40
Dr. Allison Jones is a passionate, driven leader whose contributions to both the field of dermatology and the Memphis community make her a standout candidate for Memphis' 40 Under 40. With a deep love for the city and a commitment to improving the lives of those around her, Dr. Jones has made an indelible impact through her innovative educational initiatives, her leadership in skin cancer prevention efforts, and her mentorship of the next generation of medical professionals.
Dr. Jones has dedicated herself to educating the Memphis community about skin health, particularly in the areas of skin cancer prevention and the management of skin conditions. She played an instrumental role in bringing the American Academy of Dermatology's (AAD) Good Skin Knowledge education program to local Memphis schools, spearheading STEM-based projects that engage students ages 8 to 13 in learning about skin health and skin conditions. This initiative not only raises awareness about dermatological issues but also inspires young minds to explore science and medicine as potential careers.
Her leadership extends beyond the classroom. As the Tennessee Dermatology Society State President, Dr. Jones partnered with the Memphis Medical Society and organized a successful community tennis fundraiser at Leftwich Tennis Facility in Memphis, bringing together over 100 participants to raise funds for the American Academy of Dermatologists' community outreach programs. These efforts continue her dedication to skin cancer prevention, including her active involvement in skin cancer awareness at USTA tennis tournaments in Memphis and her oversight of Stylists Against Skin Cancer, a program that educates hair stylists about recognizing signs of skin cancer on the scalp.
In service to those who protect our city, Dr. Jones is currently planning a city-wide skin cancer screening event for all Memphis firefighters, bringing crucial preventative care to first responders at heightened risk due to occupational sun exposure. In addition, she is partnering with the Women’s Dermatology Society to bring the Women’s Shelter Initiative to Memphis, a transformative outreach program designed to uplift women living in shelters. Through this initiative, she works to provide women with comprehensive guidance on caring for their skin, body, and mind—helping foster confidence, self-worth, and empowerment as they transition toward independent living. Currently Dr. Jones and medical students are partnering with both the Hope House and Thistle and Bee in Memphis to begin the initiative.
Critically, Dr. Jones also expands access to dermatologic care for Memphis’ most underserved populations. She sees patients at Regional One Health, where many individuals are uninsured or covered by Medicaid and would otherwise have no access to dermatologic services. Her expertise—particularly in severe rheumatologic skin disorders and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma—brings specialty care to patients who need it most, reinforcing her commitment to serving those in need in the Memphis and surrounding area.
As the Dermatology Residency Program Director at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), Dr. Jones provides hands-on training to residents and medical students, fostering a compassionate, patient-centered approach to dermatology. Through her clinical practice with University Clinical Health and UT Dermatology, she delivers advanced, academic-level dermatologic care while helping shape the future of the specialty in Memphis. Her efforts have been instrumental in training dermatology residents, many of whom remain in Memphis to serve the local community.
Her leadership extends beyond her professional role, as Dr. Jones is deeply involved in various Memphis-based community initiatives. She has been involved in helping with community service efforts in association with her children’s school (Christ Methodist Day School) and her involvement with Independent Presbyterian Church.
A dedicated wife and mother of two, Dr. Jones finds time to balance her thriving career with her family life and her personal interests, including playing tennis at Tennis Memphis facilities and cheering on the Memphis Grizzlies. Her deep ties to Memphis, her relentless pursuit of excellence in dermatology, and her unwavering commitment to mentorship and community service make Dr. Jones an exemplary candidate for Memphis' Top 40 Under 40.
Through her career, community engagement, and leadership in dermatology, Dr. Jones continues to make a profound impact on the lives of individuals and families across Memphis, solidifying her legacy as a passionate advocate for health education, patient care, and civic involvement.
