UT Dermatopathology Earns CAP Accreditation

UTHSC Dermatopathology, a division of the University Clinical Health, has been awarded re-accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the global leader in laboratory quality assurance. This recognition follows an on-site inspection of lab operations, marking 12 continuous years since the lab began in 2012 and reaffirming its commitment to the highest standards in dermatopathology quality practice.

Dr. M. Barry Randall, Director of UT Dermatopathology, was notified of the distinction by the CAP Accreditation Committee recognizing the laboratory team for its precision, professionalism, and dedication to patient-centered outcomes.

“Achieving CAP accreditation is a testament to the exceptional quality of our team,” said Dr. M. Barry Randall, Medical Director of UTHSC Dermatopathology. “I want to specifically acknowledge the outstanding leadership of Brian Gaylord, our Lab Manager, and our Supervisors, Tracy Jackson and Crystal Rambo. Their hard work, alongside our laboratory staff, ensure our operations meet the highest standards. This recognition reflects compliance and the culture of excellence that defines who we are.”

The CAP Accreditation Program is internationally recognized as a benchmark for laboratory excellence. It involves a comprehensive evaluation of quality control, staff qualifications, laboratory equipment, safety programs, and overall management practices that align with the latest industry standards and medical advancements.

As one of only 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide, UTHSC Dermatopathology joins a select group recognized for delivering results that clinicians and patients can trust.
